Team Building

Surprise! Yes a new blog entry staring at yah! And if you choose to play a staring game with it then read! This one’s long. Most of my May days were spent on preparing for our teambuilding… that was what kept me from updating this blog. I was chosen to be one of the committee members and was made to be in charge of the activities. Yeah I was busy thinking of worthwhile activities, those that would stamp “team” on my workmates’ spirits but at the same time won’t bore them to death or feel like they’re on a recollection or something. The things Karlene(my partner in the committee) and I prepared worked out well since my team enjoyed and had a bonding blast! BTW, we are a team of 50+ peeps. But yeah we manage to bond bond baby!

We had it at Caliraya Recreation Center. The place was nice and serene- not bad for a man-made area. Thanks to Imelda Marcos’ arjud will to put a make up on a poor country. Meeting time was hella 5am, only got 2 hours of sleep, slept during the ride, arrived at 9. You have to cross a “river” to get to the place. It was breath-taking. Trees, mountains, horses, slopes and clean fresh air! Featureless? Look.

As soon as we arrived, I was all able to check out the place for the activities we’re about to do. We were already out of sched for the things we’ve prepared so we have to make adjustments. First activity was bwahahaha cheering competition- to build team spirit haha. Well, we divided them in small teams and would need to prepare a cheer. I thought of having them make a cheer out of commercial jingles but I never expected that my workmates would take it seriously. I was surprised on how they creatively came up with a cheering routine out of stupid jingles! They did things like that First Day High Rexona jingle, the one from Joy dishwasher and of course the undying SAKTO >:P - all in performance level! bwahahahah wacky fun! Then we went onto the next activity. There was an obstacle course so we thought of utilizing it. So we had an obstacle game, I was explaining the rules when they asked for a demo of how to go through it. So I did.. hehehe. We played and there were some people who got hurt. Not my fault. 0:D

Lunchtime TING TING TING! I ate 4 chicken parts, I don’t know what happened that I went that hungry; and was hoping that I have that kind of appetite everyday. It rained while we’re having lunch and everyone had the same idea to go out and shower. So after we ate, we all run into the rain like kids allowed by their parents to go after a series of negotiations. And it feels so damn good. I mean, it’s like years since I haven’t let myself play under the rain. At this age, you always rid yourself of getting wet every time it rains. But that time, there was no age or any other factor; just pure bliss of cold water and MUD. Yes, mud. The soil was damp and slippery, it was best for mudslide! They had this area for that and it was perfect to have it while it’s raining. The slope was high and scary but it was all fun getting dirty with mud all over!

After that we went to clean ourselves up for the next activity, as if it doesn’t involve more dirt…

That is a ball right on our background. It’s called ‘earthball’ – a huge ball, which cannot be lifted by people like me, only Incredible Hulk’s cousins can. Since it’s a ball it needs to be treated like a ball. Game was volleyball… yeah serve it, toss it, spike it(uhuh Joven did it alone) It was super hilarious watching how they toss the ball and where the ball goes! It’s uncontrollable and sometimes lands its way to the spectators. The game was physical- running around after the ball, raising your hand non-stop to catch it, slipping, sliding, and even getting smashed by the ball (poor Kuya Marco)…

After that, we went swimming. We were supposed to have a balloon game (too long to explain) but all the balloons popped so no game there. We just had the second game, which was called ‘Sweater Swim’ (yeah I just invented the name). I got dad’s old thick sweaters from the baul. So it’s a swim race but you have to wear the wet and heavy sweater. I didn’t realize how heavy it was, really, that one of them got cramps and people kept cursing how heavy the sweaters were. I was amused by the sight of it but I wasn’t anymore when I took them home with pounds of water!

Dinnertime and I was already tired. I felt like going to bed already. The air was cold and it gave me that sleepy feel. I ate dinner and hurried back to our room to take a bath. I took a nap to recharge for our night activities. I woke up and the sun was up! It’s already 10 am!!! Bwahahahaha! Freak! I slept for a total of 14 hours. What a shame! I was supposed to facilitate but I snoozed my ass of… how irresponsible can I get. Good thing my workmates know how to enjoy themselves. Too bad I missed the bonfire, videoke and inuman. L

It was bye bye time already. I even wanted to go jet skiing and stuff but my fault I woke up late. Everyone maxed out their time taking pictures and packing clean air in their lungs. We were still having fun on our way home. We played Pinoy Henyo where a word is posted up your forehead and you have to probe questions answerable by Yes/No to guess what the word is. Dang the words were EDI Mapping related -_-. It was hard to guess words like MENTOR, RUN FILE, AI 4.1 and the like… but my workmates were such smart asses they guessed some. Pretty impressive…

All got aching bodies and stained clothes to wash. Oh well, the price of having fun… But the best thing we all brought home was the memory of having fun and bonding in Caliraya as a team…

Honestly, I got to say that at GXS I felt like I was in school again. They’re all fun loving, relaxed, helpful people. It’s like you have a barkada at work which, I believe, is so hard to find. Having that makes my routinely boring life a little bit easy. Thank God!
